GLEN MILLER Where Is The Love / Funky Broadway (Outta Sight Modern MSV020) Outta Sight Modern SouL: The A-side is a 2-step classic, “Where Is The Love”, courtesy of the little known Glen Miller. It was recorded in Jamaica by the WIRL company (West Indian Record Label) and released in 1967 on Graeme Goodall’s UK Doctor Bird label. Goodall had previously co-founded Island Records and his own Pyramid label scoring a No.1 with Desmond Dekker’s “Israelites”. Goodall released some 200 records on Doctor Bird but it is Miller’s sublime cut that remains the label’s most sought after and valuable 45. Another Mod/Soul fave by Miller is “Rock Steady Party” which finds the ska man talking over Booker T’s “Hip Hug-Her”. We've gone for the original B side, “Funky Broadway”, a heavy cover of Dyke & The Blazers funk classic. 7" 8.50

The Vibrations The Searching Is Over / Always Had Your Way (Go Ahead) Released to co-incide with the legendary group’s first visit to the UK since 1966 comes this fantastic , previously unreleased on vinyl double-header. The top side “The searching is over” was only very recently found in the vaults of Okeh records, and is as good as any 60s soul track you’ll ever hear. Written by the group members and produced by Chicago legend Riley Hampton in mid 1965, this track sits right up there with the best around from the Windy City, reminiscent of gems like Tony Clarke’s “The Entertainer” and Jackie Ross’s “Selfish one”. On the flip side, we have another previously unreleased stormer penned by a youthful Eugene Record, “Always had your way”, which was recorded in 1967 and reminds very much of “Reach out I ll be there” – again a top class piece of 60s soul. This Vibrations 45 represents a piece of history – two of their best songs ever out on vinyl for the first time, exclusively on the new series of GO AHEAD 45s, the label where both sides are always guaranteed to be winners! 7" 8.50

Normally associated with rock & roll, Richard had a long and illustrious career, keeping pace with with current musical trends. He recorded the amazing “Get Down With It” at the famed Abbey Road Studios in December 1966, and it's an absolute floor-stomper with choppy piano, massive vox (check those trademark 'woooh' screams - possibly ripped by a certain 60s beat combo...) and rocking rhythm. "I Don't Want To Discuss It" is equally energised and also a massive northern tune.. 7" 8.50

Outta Sight's ‘exclusive’ flipside features, for the first time, an unusual out-take that surfaced a few years ago on a studio acetate from Colley’s personal collection. Kenny and I went back to my office and wrote the song there and then”. Father Angelo’s ‘Angels’, a 9-piece blue-eyed soul band with a self-contained horn section, were brought to Jerry via WAEB DJ Gene Kaye. Both are essentials for all northern soul spinners. 7" 8.50

THE SAPPHIRES The Slow Fizz / Baby You Got Me (Outta Sight OSV091) The final recording for Jerry Ross’ super group the Sapphires. “The Slow Fizz”, according to girl group expert Mick Patrick, is “a near perfect go-go anthem” and who can disagree. Like many great records of its genre it failed to chart but went on to become a favourite on the UK northern soul scene and still is to this day. The flipside, “Baby You Got Me”, was unreleased at the time and employs the same backing track but with a different lyric. Almost 50 years on it finally gets an official vinyl release. 7" 8.50

INVITATIONS Skiing In The Snow / What's Wrong With Me Baby? (Outta Sight OSV100) After an incredible three years Outta Sight are proud to announce the release of the 100th Northern Soul reissue in the highly collectable OSV series. The Invitations first burst onto the UK rare soul scene at the famed Twisted Wheel club in Manchester with their UK Stateside release “What’s Wrong With Me Baby?”. Still hugely popular today, this original American DynoVoice recording from 1965 was penned and produced by writing partners Sandy Linzer and Denny Randell who also brought us The Toys “A Lover’s Concerto” and Odyssey’s 1977 disco classic “Native New Yorker”. The duo also delivered The Invitations final DynoVoice release in 1966 - the iconic “Skiing In The Snow”, forever synonymous with the heyday of Northern Soul when 2,000 young soulies packed the cavernous dance floor at Wigan Casino. In 1975 the thunderous bass drum of “The Champion” echoed around the hallowed halls demanding dance floor action and it hasn’t let up since. It was originally played off the Hi LP Driving Beat or, if you were lucky, off the promotional EP. Here we present an official Hi 7 inch single accompanied by the Twisted Wheel anthem “Little Queenie” courtesy of Bill Black’s Combo. 7" 8.50

Here we pair it with Chuck Wood’s (aka J R Bailey) Torch classic “Seven Days Too Long”. 7" 8.50

JUST BROTHERS Sliced Tomatoes / ELOISE LAWS Love Factory (Outta Sight OSV-104) Outta Sight presents the official 40th anniversary collector’s edition of Just Brothers “Sliced Tomatoes” and Eloise Laws “Love Factory”. Even if you don't know the band name or title, you'll know the Just Brothers “Sliced Tomatoes” from its sample use in "The Rockafeller Skank" by Fatboy Slim - just add your own 'check it out now, the funk soul brother' vocals... Eloise Laws “Love Factory” is a proper floor stomper with BIG soul vocals. Mega! On January 3rd, 1972 the production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland launched their third independent label Music Merchant. It would prove to be a financial disaster and the label closed its doors just over a year later in the summer of ’73. Two songs would emerge from the dying embers and (even 40 years on) reign supreme over the phenomenon known as northern soul. 7" 8.50

DANA VALERY You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies / You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies (Outta Sight OSV-105) Re-issue of popular Wigan Casino floor-filler. SPIRAL STARECASE More Today Than Yesterday/ Baby What I Mean (Outta Sight OSV108) The band, from Sacramento, were formed in 1964 as The Fydallions and were signed to Columbia in ’68 by A&R man Gary Usher. It was Usher who pushed for the name change to the Spiral Starecase, after the film but with a deliberate misspelling. Usher also produced their first singles: an upbeat cover of the Drifters soul workout “Baby What I Mean” and “I’ll Run” coupled with “Inside, Outside, Upside Down”, a Mod/Soul collectable by Al Torino. But, it was Upton’s own composition “More Today Than Yesterday” that propelled the band to #12 in the Billboard Hot 100, selling over one million copies and scoring a gold disc. An album of the same name followed plus a couple more singles but they were unable to repeat their earlier success and within 18 months they disbanded.7" 8.50

The song, a massive Blackpool Mecca spin at the time of release, also enjoyed popularity at Wigan Casino by Chuck Jackson and Cleethorpes by Spooky & Sue.The flip side is no slouch either. “Nine Times” from 1976 is a true club-classic with its unforgettable “telephone” intro calling you onto the dance floor. Both sides remain floor fillers today and are available for the first time back-to-back.7" 8.50

On the A-side, "You Know How To Love Me" is the perfect post-disco soul cut, combining the rhythmic thrust of the sequined dancefloor with a soulful smoothness and the spine-tingling tonalities which mark out modern soul classics like "Love's No Longer Got A Hold On Me" and "Too Much Lovemaking". THE WORLD COLUMN So Is The Sun / PRINCE GEORGE Wrong Crowd (Outta Sight OSV140) So Is The Sun” by The World Column is one of those few records that stand alone, almost in a category all of its own. It’s funk, it’s soul, it’s old, it’s new, it’s northern, it’s modern – it’s all of those, and it’s a psychedelic, Sly & The Family Stone, 2 minutes and 48 seconds of wonderment. Underpinning everything is its relentless stomping beat which ultimately appealed to Northern Soul dancers at Wigan, Cleethorpes and Blackpool Mecca, and Paul Weller of The Jam – check out their “Trans Global Express”! What could possibly follow “So Is The Sun”? It must have been a puzzle for any DJ at the time, but with the benefit of hindsight, Prince George’s “Wrong Crowd” is about as good as it gets. A fabulous DPG recording from 1972. 7"8.90

Is it pop, is it soul, are they black, are they white, etc etc. Well, it’s a rock record from 1971 and has nothing to do with soul… but everything to do with Northern Soul! It packed the floor at the Highland Room and was adopted as a Wigan Casino anthem and immortalized by Tony Palmer in his 1977 Granada TV documentary This England. It was reissued by UK Buddah, due to popular demand, driven in no small part by the TV show and its 20 million viewers.
